As part of its SelectUSA Tech series, SelectUSA will host a CleanTech Virtual Inbound Investment Mission in February 2022. Programming will run from February 15-17, with a networking platform open to participants the entire week of February 14-18.
“CleanTech” signifies technologies that contribute to a transition to net-zero emissions, especially renewable energy production, storage, or transmission. This includes, but is not limited to, solar and wind energy, energy efficiency, and battery storage.
Programming Opportunities
The mission will include a number of unique sessions:
- In-depth presentations by several economic development organizations with a focus on attracting CleanTech investment.
- Panel discussions covering key investment topics, such as the fundraising landscape and establishing your company in the U.S.
- Webinars with key U.S. government agencies.
- A pitching session for selected companies to showcase their product in front of a panel of judges and a wider audience.
- Extensive opportunities to network with other participants.
Who should apply to attend?
Note: All companies must be vetted and approved by SelectUSA before being accepted to participate in the event.
International Tech Startups in CleanTech sectors looking to expand operations to the United States market, or to learn more about CleanTech industries in key ecosystems around the United States. All startups in the CleanTech spaceare welcome to apply, though special priority will be given to startups meeting the following criteria:
- Less than 10 years old (founded on or after January 1, 2012).
- Up to $10 million annual revenue.
- Less than 40 total employees.
- Developing a new CleanTech technology product or service or delivering an existing technology to market in new ways.
- Planning to expand to the United States within the next 2-3 years.
Representatives of economic development organizations seeking to attract foreign direct investment in CleanTech to their region.
Venture capitalists, investors, accelerators/incubators, and other service providers interested in connecting with dynamic CleanTech startups planning to expand to the United States.
CleanTech Pitching Session
On Wednesday, February 16, 2022, 9:00 – 10:30 am EST, SelectUSA will host a virtual pitching session for selected CleanTech startups to pitch their product or service in front of a panel of 3-4 experienced judges.
Each company will have 4 minutes to pitch, after which they will receive about 2 minutes for Q&A with the judges. Companies are expected to be concise; presenters who finish in less than 4 minutes will have additional time to answer questions.
The winning company will receive an invite to the CleanTech industry pitching session at the 2022 SelectUSA Investment Summit, which runs June 26-29, 2022, as well as a free ticket to attend the Investment Summit.
Any company that wishes to be considered for this pitching session should (1) indicate this interest in their application form, and (2) upload a pdf to their application that answers the questions below in no more than 200 words per question.
Note: Due to limited space, only selected companies will receive a spot to pitch. Companies who are selected will receive a notification at the end of January 2022.

If you would like to apply to pitch during the CleanTech Virtual Inbound Investment Mission, please answer the following questions in no more than 200 words per question and upload your answers to your application as a pdf file.
What – Please describe your product or technology, including its Unique Selling Proposition (USP) and the 4 P’s (price, product, promotion, and place).
Why – Explain the problem you are solving and the available market opportunity. Who are your competitors and what is your competitive advantage? What is your target market, both globally and in the U.S.?
How – What is your business model? How do you plan to make money and scale? What milestones have you achieved to date (e.g., Intellectual Property protections, existing customers, funding obtained, and so on)?
When/Where – What are your next steps for growing your business? What are your plans for U.S. expansion, and what does the timeline look like?
Who – Include the name, title, skillset, and relevant experience for key contributing members of your team.
