Eight to ten app development teams build a 5G AR mobile tourism app called “Spektakuläres Düsseldorf” (Spectacular Düsseldorf) for sightseeing and the architectural highlights of Düsseldorf. They will pitch their app prototypes to win € 30,000 prize money on the big final day in September.

The 5G AR Mobile App Hackathon shows how easily app developers can use the HUAWEI Mobile Services (HMS) platform to quickly develop and market innovative, high-quality and secure 5G apps.

The 5G AR mobile apps to be developed by the competition teams should be showcases and a showcase into the future demonstrating the potential of the new technology 5G and AR and their combination in a multimedia app using tourism as an example.

The HUAWEI HMS Core development platform with its development tools, services, APIs and the AR Engine provides the basis for this exciting project.
The Challenge
The selected teams have two months to develop an app that makes Düsseldorf a tangible experience. The app showcases should whet the appetite for more. More multimedia and more tourism experience in NRW.
To present a 5G mobile app with English menu navigation on the final day, HUAWEI will provide you with a 5G-enabled mobile phone and access to HMS Core.

The Grand Finale
On the final day we will meet you live in a location with a studio stage in Düsseldorf. With the support of pitch coaches, you will first create a 15-20-minute app showcase and your pitch deck.
Afterwards, you will give a live presentation in English in front of a jury of experts and anyone interested in tech and tourism who is following the event via live streaming on the Internet. Audience and jury will vote on the three winning apps.
