OVERVIEW
Japan has one of the most rapidly aging populations in the world. There are many initiatives to deal with the aging society’s problems in various fields, creating business opportunities. Impacts of the aging population on industries and their solutions vary among different regions. As a result, it is crucial for foreign companies looking to expand their business in Japan to strategically select regions in which they can leverage their strengths.
In this seminar, we will discuss two cases of dealing with the aging society: Sendai City’s endeavor to extend the healthy lifespan of the elderly, and Kitakyushu City, which focuses on upgrading the manufacturing site. We hope that it will provide a meaningful introduction to regional business opportunities arising from the aging society from academia and government perspectives and some ideas for foreign companies in considering regional businesses.
